There are various methods utilized when it comes to administering molecular hydrogen including inhalation, injection, drinking hydrogen water, and topically applying it. The question that most people want to know is, which is best?

Which form of consumption is best?
Generally, this comes down to personal preference and overall concentration/dose of hydrogen. There is a lot to consider as an individual as to what the best option is including affordability, portability, and overall time to intake hydrogen gas. It is important to note that as a science-based nonprofit, MHI does not promote, endorse, or sell molecular hydrogen products, so you will have to do your own investigation in this area. However, we will cover some basics on how to ensure you have a high quality product.
Most common way to administer hydrogen gas
Currently, drinking hydrogen water is the most commonly used method in animal and clinical research. Some studies show that in at least some conditions, hydrogen water is just as effective and sometimes more effective than other methods including inhalation. This is likely not the case for all diseases and is impossible to even use in some cases (e.g., comatose patients). We cover inhalation of hydrogen gas in our Level 2 certification courses which you can take here.
Drinking Hydrogen Water
Hydrogen water is normal water (H2O) with hydrogen gas dissolved into it. The more hydrogen gas infused into the water, the higher the concentration, and the higher the dose per liter. Please note that hydrogen gas can be dissolved into water up to 1.6 mg/L under atmospheric pressure. This means the greatest dose of hydrogen that you can get is 1.6 mg if you ingest the entire liter at this concentration.

Do not over-consume water in an attempt to increase your hydrogen consumption. Excessive consumption of water can have negative side effects such as dangerous hyponatremia.
Benefits of hydrogen consumption
While the potential benefits of hydrogen water are still being researched, research indicates that nearly every organ in the human body may benefit from molecular hydrogen therapy. The early research is very optimistic in its findings. Another important note is the overall safety of molecular hydrogen. So far, there are no known contraindications or toxic side effects. This means that even though we aren’t completely sure how effective molecular hydrogen is in treating multiple diseases, it doesn’t seem to hurt.
Choosing a product that meets IHSA criteria
When it comes to choosing a product, we recommend choosing products that are certified to IHSA criteria. Ask the manufacturer of the product if it is certified to this criteria or not and be given a clear answer. Additionally, you may also check with the certifying entity to ensure that the certification is still valid or it covers the product claimed to be certified However, just because a product is not certified, does not mean it couldn’t potentially be a good product. You will have to do further investigation to ensure that it meets your needs.

Purchasing from someone who is MHI-certified
Because there is a lot of misinformation surrounding molecular hydrogen, we encourage consumers of hydrogen to purchase from someone who is MHI certified. This increases the likelihood that the person selling the product understands the science behind the product, and therefore, is selling a good product. Our certification courses teach scientific principles, critical thinking, and how to spot pseudoscience. The courses also cover the science behind molecular hydrogen and molecular hydrogen therapy. Taking our courses is another way of ensuring that you as a consumer are protecting yourself by learning for yourself how the hydrogen molecule exerts benefits, and what it does not do (or what we don’t know).

Conclusion
As always, be sure to talk to your qualified health physician before starting any new treatment. Molecular hydrogen is simply hydrogen gas and can be consumed in several different ways. The most common ways are drinking hydrogen water and inhalation. This likely comes down to preference and availability. The choice is yours after you do your research on the multiple products out there.
